Skid Grit

Will these bass die??

I was fishing, and there was some kid who was probably ten, and he caught two bass, accidently dropped both on some rocks (rocks surround the bank), and they flipped back into the water. Are bass tough enough to withstand being dropped from 4 feet onto rocks?

Probably. If they landed on the top of their heads, they might have problems, but if they just bounced on their sides, then flipped into the water and swam off, they're probably okay. Bass are pretty tough.

Catching mackerel for bait on long range trips, often they fall off the Sabiki hooks and onto the deck (hard, covered with non-skid grit). The crew scoops them up with a bait net and drops them in the bait tank, where they live for several days until we use them for bait. But if you pick the dropped mackerel up with your hands, the crew makes you toss them over the side, since mackerel which are handled tend to die.

So I wouldn't worry about those bass.
