Will an uncorredted vision of 20/400 correctible to 20/30 prove me incapable of performing police duty ?

I have 20/400 uncorrectibleand 20/30 & 20/25 correctible. I want to be a police officer in a village in my county. Is that too bad or will I need lasik surgery? The dept told me they dont have an eyesight requirement, the doc will decide. Anybody here with such knowledge can enlighten me on this matter ?

It is going to depend on the agency/department. They all have different requirements. My department is 20/200 uncorrected, 20/30 corrected in one eye, and 20/20 in the other. Weird huh? If they don't have a set policy, they are probably relying on the doctor to make sure you are acceptable, which might very well be 20/30, your just going to have to wait. Don't get lasik without checking the department rules first. Although it's a fairly safe bet these days that you will get good results if diagnosed as a good candidate, some departments won't hire you for a set time period after you've had it done just to ensure it sticks (usually 1 or 2 years). It use to be the rule, although I haven't looked into it lately so it might not be so common of a requirement anymore, but be sure to check.
