What is the correct procedure for going to work overseas?

Like using an Agency, than taking a course for say something like Pipe Fitter. Than getting the passport, etc. Now would you get the medical BEFORE you even know if you got the job? Would the agency have you get everything done (make you pay for it out of pocket), put you on a wait list, than never call you for months? This is what happened to someone I know and now another person is about to do the same thing. It's quite costly and these people dont even know if they have jobs for sure. What is the correct procedure?

Going through an agency is a dicey proposition because so many of these outfits are scams or just plain inexperienced, incompetent, or there are no jobs available anywhere. Pipefitter is hardly something so rare, so technically demanding, high-level education, etc, that there is a need to bring in foreign labor as pipefitters.

Also consider where they might be trying to place people as well as what sort of positions. Employment visa regulations vary by country, and the job has to fall within the requirements for an employer to obtain the visa.

And with international employment, you always must be trained and experienced PRIOR to applying for a job. So if you want to be a pipefitter, you must have the proper training + experience before signing up with a placement agency or applying with a prospective employer. If you're not trained + experienced, and an agency wants you to list, you know it's a scam.
