can i add sprinkler control valves downstream of antisiphon valve?

I've seen two conflicting answers in plumbing books. One is to never install valves downstream of an antisiphon valve to avoid potential damage of antisiphon valve. Other is to add control valves for each circuit downstream of one antisiphon valve. which is correct?

Yes you can. Otherwise, you would need an individual antisiphon for each zone. Many times your antisiphon valve will have an irrigation-type valve prefabricated just up stream from the antisiphon to keep pressure off of the antisiphon when your sprinklers are not running (i.e. Irritrol 2713 valve). This upstream valve is known as a master valve and would likely be a good idea to add as well.
