Breathing Tube
Is the breathing tube put into my throat during surgery dangerous?
That's one of the things I'm worried about. I'm having knee surgery. My neck and mouth is rather small, and I have a strong gag reflex, so it's hard for me to swallow pills. Will that breathing tube put into my throat when I'm asleep be dangerous for me?
NO, breathing tubes come in many different sizes, we used them all the time when I was a paramedic. You will be asleep when they put it in and they will take it out before you wake up, you may get a bit of a sore throat. I have had more tubes down my throat than I can count and none of them hurt me except a slight sore throat. You will not have a gag reflex since you will be asleep. The Dr's always listen with a stethoscope to make sure it goes in the lung. Stop worrying, you won't know a thing and you will be fine. As I said the tubes come in different sizes (they have to since they are also used on babies)
