New Tata Indigo
The New indigo saloon, business car now with power dressing, a list of changes and complete review; More
The hottest small car in town, with 100ps under the bonnet and an 8.5 lakh price tag. More
The real story behind the scorching success and the huge 31kmpl mileage figure, ford fiesta diesel. More

Tata has launched another version of its hot selling saloon, the Indigo. The frugal diesel heart made strong economic sense and the price it came at, was simply unbelievable as there was no car that could offer similar space. Now, tata have decided to give their car a makeover.

This makeover aims strongly at providing a little something extra for the indigo buyer as the indigo and the Indica V2 look similar to the point that if you ignore the boot on the indigo, you would be looking at an indica.

All that changes with the launch of the power dressing; as tata terms it. Changes are almost completely cosmetic, but we were told that there are some changes to the turbo hose connections. This has made power deliver very linear. Gone are the days when you got a shove in the back when the revs went past 2200rpm in second gear. Power on the test car seemed deceptively smooth and the power although very good, felt very usable.

The new indigo gets a new and very different looking bumper that has a smiling grille. New air dams in the front of the car also differentiate this car from the indica. Also brand new and way more stunning are the new headlamps that have projector esque look and there are two of them too. In description, the changes may sound they aren't much, but have a look at the photos and you'll think of this as a corolla. The new dials which also have chrome rings have been sourced from the Tata safari Dicor

Around the sides of the car are new skirts below the doors which tata calls sill valance cover. There is a new chrome cladding on the doors and also a chrome strip on the wing mirrors. The indigo also gets a new set of tail lamps which are quite brilliant.

The best part of the changes according to me though have taken place inside the car. The interiors have been thoroghly reworked and thanks to the new steering wheel; has a kind of maharaja feel to it. There is also a brushed aluminium console in the middle with a relocated 12V jack. Rotary AC knobs also look very good. Particularly impressive is the vintage feel analog clock in the center of the dash available with the SX version diesel and the GSX version petrol.

You will also find height adjustable seats on the top of the line models which is quite a revelation to say the least. All in all, a very fresh looking car. More so on the inside than the outside.
