91 Chevy Lumina running rough replaced idle air control and map sensor running worse is this right?
I had a diagnostic done and it said EGR valve was bad along with idle air control and map sensor EGR valve is almost $300 can't get til pay day. Would this one part being bad make it run worse then the three parts being bad or did I do something wrong?
Those EGRs go bad very seldomly and are misdiagnosed as being bad. They can usually be cleaned out. Like the last guy said, pull the EGR off and you will probably find it is clogged with carbon, as well as the port going into the upper plenum. Take the air intake tube off and open the throttle plate and look inside too. It is probably also coated with carbon. This is not hard to clean really. Spray out the bottom of the EGR and try to get that as clean as possible. Take a little round wire brush and clean the port where the EGR bolts on, open the throttle plate and spray that out with carburetor cleaner. Put the EGR back on with a new gasket, making sure both surfaces are clean. Make sure you plug in that little connector in the air intake tube, then start the car and have someone keep it running. Spray the carb cleaner directly into the throttle body. This will clean out most of the carbon. If you have a 3.1 you can put the air intake tube back on, and empty a can of carb cleaner into the PCV hose and the engine vacuum will pull it throughout the cumbustion chamber. If you have a 2.8, the PCV might be on the back valve cover and hard to get to. The car will smoke heavily, but that is normal. You will want to watch how much spraying you do when the car is at idle speed because you could quite possible foul out the spark plugs. After you are done cleaning it, take it on the highway over 60mph for about 45 minutes. This should do the trick.
